Health from a Range of Perspectives

Health is complex—explore the many ways to promote and sustain good health.

Integrate perspectives from a variety of disciplinary lenses to better understand how health is influenced not only by biochemical forces but also by social structures, culture, identities, politics and economics.

See health from a community perspective and as a human right.

Witness how communities shape such critical issues as social disparities in health and universal healthcare. Examine how social structures foster programs to ensure the human right to health and the impediments to such a process like inequality and poor access to health care.

The issues we study are both local and global: recent student projects have focused on food insecurity in Beloit, communication about malaria prevention in Kenya, and teen pregnancy in Chile. Many of the major courses include hands-on learning such as a community health assessment.
