Resources & Opportunities

Make the most of your undergraduate degree in preparing for a career in health sciences.

Undergraduate research

Students using a Gas Chromatograph (GC) instrument. Students can participate in research projects related to basic science or healthcare practice during their time as an undergraduate student at Beloit College.

For example, there are opportunities for students to work each summer with Beloit College science faculty on their research or through the Pakula Biomedical Fellowship Program.

These opportunities are either 4 weeks or 8 weeks in length. Students receive college credit and a stipend for their work, and all participating students live on campus.

Internships and shadowing

Students who choose the health sciences major have the opportunity to shadow professional and intern with local community partners, including hospitals, clinics, and health departments.

Health professions preparation

Nursing dual degree program

An instructor leads two nursing students through the process of reading heart rate through the wrist. The Beloit-Edgewood Dual Degree BSN program allows students to earn two bachelor’s degrees and be fully prepared for a career as a registered nurse (RN), in a flexible, personalized program within the supportive Beloit community.

Students who complete this 3+1 or 4+1 program can earn a BA or BS from Beloit College in a medical related field, including health sciences, as well as a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree from Edgewood College.

Pharmacy dual degree program

Beloit has partnered with the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) to provide students a unique Pharmacy dual-degree program. Students can graduate with a BS/BA from Beloit and a PharmD from MCW in as few as six years.

Health Professions Advisory Committee

An undergraduate degree at Beloit College will prepare students for a variety of post-grad programs in healthcare. The Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC), comprised of Beloit College professors, will help each student develop their own narrative of academic, emotional, work, personal, interpersonal, and professional skills development to successfully prepare for a career in healthcare.

Students with the health sciences major have completed most if not all prerequisite coursework for professional training in the health professions, including Nursing, Physician’s Associate/Assistant, and Physical Therapist programs. Students should consult with their advisor and professors to ensure that the coursework aligns with their career goals.
