Student groups and activities
- The Green Team educates the campus about sustainability-related issues.
- The Outdoor Environmental Club (OEC) plans environmentally-related activities and camping trips. The club hosts events at the OEC house, where some members live together.
- Students manage the Beloit Urban Garden (BUG) that produces sustainable, organic, and ecologically-sound food connections to the Beloit College campus. Working as part of a team, you will grow produce, learn how to sell it, and research how the food you grow fits into our local food ecosystem and infrastructure. BUG maximizes Wisconsin’s growing season and is designed to be aesthetically pleasing to humans and important pollinators.
- Students in the Campus Mounds Sustainability & Advocacy Initiative (CMSAI) promote awareness, recognition, and respect for the burial mounds on the Beloit College campus.
- Compost Team students coordinate food waste collection and composting at special interest houses on campus.
- The Geology Club educates the campus about planet Earth and plans field trips to geologically significant destinations.
Sustainability resources
- Students lead projects to undertake real sustainability improvements on campus with the Revolving Loan Fund, a committee that evaluates and awards low-interest loans for sustainability initiatives on campus.
- Students borrow camping gear or other outdoor stuff from the Gear Shack and head outside.
Campus facilities
- Native plantings and rain gardens: Campus is full of sustainable landscaping, which students can enjoy and study.
- Greenhouse: Space in the Sanger Center for the Sciences in which plants are grown for teaching and research purposes.
- Buccaneer Boathouse: A facility on the Rock River with canoes and kayaks for student use. Borrow a bicycle to cruise through Riverside Park to the boathouse.
