Brick and Mortar Bookstore to Close in May

The college is transitioning to an exclusively online bookseller that will offer substantial benefits to students, says Stacie Scott, the college’s vice president for finance and planning. Lower prices, easier access and convenience, and improved flexibility for faculty are among the advantages. Students will be able to buy and compare new and used books, e-books, and rental books, all online in one location. Beloit College swag and apparel will continue to be sold in several places, including online and at retail locations on campus and in the Beloit area.

The college has leased the bookstore space since 2000, when locating a retail operation there was part of a burgeoning effort to rejuvenate the city’s downtown. Prior to that move, the college bookstore operated out of the lower level of Pearsons Hall.
