Coach DeGeorge takes over as athletic director

Dave DeGeorge’89, Beloit’s award-winning head baseball coach since 1991, has stepped up to become the college’s next athletic director.

Provost Eric Boynton announced the news in May. DeGeorge has a unique set of Beloit experiences to bring to the position.

He played Buccaneer baseball and football when his father, Ed DeGeorge, was Beloit’s legendary head football coach and athletic director. From 1991 to 2009, he also coached defense and special teams as assistant football coach. His tenure as head baseball coach led the Buccaneers to win Midwest Conference Championship titles in 2009 and 2016, and his coaching has received wide recognition, including Midwest Conference Coach of the Year in 2016. Perhaps most importantly, DeGeorge has excelled as a role model and a recognized mentor who connects deeply with students.

In addition to his new duties as athletic director, DeGeorge will continue coaching baseball.

Tim Schmeichen, Beloit’s longtime soccer coach and athletic director from 2014-2020, has accepted a new post with the college as director of development. In the college’s Development and Alumni Relations division, he will focus his talents on Beloit’s $50 million Be All In Campaign.
