High GPAs and Athletic Feats Place Students on All-Academic Team

Track and field athletes excel in the classroom and in their sports.

The men’s and women’s track and field programs at Beloit were named to the NCAA All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association in July.

The Buccaneer women achieved the highest team GPA of any program in the Midwest Conference at 3.58. The men posted a team GPA of 3.29. Senior Eva Laun-Smith also received individual NCAA All-Academic honors from the association.

Laun-Smith had an incredible spring, breaking Beloit’s record in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.80 seconds at the Margaret Bradley Invitational, and scoring the seventh-best time in Division III. In January, she also recorded a leap of 11.51 meters in the triple jump at the Warhawk Classic, a distance that ranked 26th nationally at the end of the indoor season. She had been scheduled to compete in both the 60-meter hurdles and long jump at the 2020 NCAA Indoor Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, in March when Covid forced the NCAA to cancel all winter championships.
