Record Interest in Beloit—Again

After setting a new record for applications and drawing the largest incoming class in more than 40 years to the college this past fall, Beloit is showing early signs of a consecutive record-breaking enrollment year.

As of mid-March, the college had already received 3,824 applications for the class of 2020, a 9 percent increase over last year’s total at the same point. Illinois remains the top state for generating applications, but for the first time, California has become the college’s second-largest market. Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Texas round out the top five states for applications this year.

The college has also seen a 19 percent increase in international applications and a 24 percent jump in applications from domestic minority students.

While applicants have until May 1 to formally declare their intentions, Vice President for Enrollment Robert Mirabile says the college is on track to have a first-year class similar in size to last year’s class of 390 students.

“Whether during campus visits or alumni- and parent-hosted events around the country, these prospective students are seeing and hearing the value of a Beloit education first hand,” he says.
