Book cover for They Shot Kennedy by David Benjamin'73. David Benjamin’s novel They Shot Kennedy weaves the poignant and humorous coming-of-age story of a Midwestern high school boy with America’s loss of innocence, signaled in part through the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963.

In 2021, the Midwest Book Award, given by the Midwest Independent Publishers Association, awarded this novel its top prize in the literary/contemporary/historical fiction category.
