Excellent Undergraduate Teaching

In 2019, Professor Sylvia López received the highest teaching honor given at the College: the James R. Underkofler Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award.

Professor Sylvia López, who holds the Harry C. Moore Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures, and teaches Spanish, was nominated for Beloit’s highest teaching honor by a committee of former Underkofler recipients and her students, who surrounded her in support when she was officially recognized in April. The Alliant Energy Foundation, a public utility holding company headquartered in Madison, Wis., created and funds the teaching award, named for a longtime Alliant Energy senior executive. The prize is awarded to outstanding professors teaching within the company’s service area.
