From Beloit College to the classroom: An EDYS alumna makes an impact
Beloit native and education & youth studies alumna Bre Noack ’22 has turned her passion for working with children into a meaningful career as an elementary teacher and coach in her hometown.
Bre Noack ’22, a Beloit native and proud Beloiter, has always felt deeply connected to her community. Now an elementary teacher and coach, she carries that connection into her daily work with students. Bre describes herself as someone who has long been drawn to working with children, a passion shaped by early babysitting experiences and supported by a family rooted in higher education. Staying in town to attend Beloit College allowed her to pursue both her academic goals and her love of softball, while remaining close to the people and place that helped shape her.
Bre’s decision to pursue education was grounded in her desire to support and guide young learners. Teaching in the district where she grew up, and coaching the sports she cares deeply about, felt like a natural extension of her passions. Her time at Beloit College strengthened that decision through hands-on classroom experiences, close mentorship, and coursework that deepened her understanding of how children learn and develop. She credits cognitive science and child development classes, along with education practicum placements, for giving her essential tools and confidence. Professors Jingjing Lou and Bill New were especially influential, offering guidance that helped her imagine herself successfully leading her own classroom.
Today, Bre’s teaching days begin early. She arrives around 7:30 a.m. to prepare her room before her students begin phonics instruction. Mornings are filled with direct teaching and specials like art, gym, or music. After lunch and recess, her students work independently or in small groups to build on the skills they learned earlier in the day. After dismissal, Bre spends quiet time planning and preparing for what comes next.
For current EDYS students, Bre offers clear advice: “Make the most of the opportunities that are given, especially in the education world. Even small experiences can shape your skills, your confidence, and your future career in education.” She emphasizes the value of building strong relationships with peers, professors, mentors, and cooperating teachers—connections that can evolve into lasting professional support.
Looking ahead, Bre sees herself remaining in education for the long term. She loves her work as an elementary teacher and enjoys coaching high school sports as well. While she is open to roles such as reading or math interventionist in the future, her focus now is on growing in her current position and continuing to make a positive impact. Recent professional experiences, including attending a conference on inclusion and receiving the Beloit Daily News “Favorite Educator” award for Best of the Stateline 2025, have reinforced her commitment.
