Holiday weekend meals

If you’re sticking around campus over the weekend, breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be available at Commons:

    • Thanksgiving Lunch: 11:00-1:00
    • Dinner: 4:00-6:00
  • Friday, Nov. 29
    • Breakfast: 8:00-9:30
    • Lunch: 11:00-1:00
    • Dinner: 5:00-7:00
  • Saturday/Sunday: Regular hours

Preparing for the Career Accelerator

This year’s Career Accelerator will take place Jan. 6-10, 2025. This series of online workshops during winter break is a great opportunity for students to prepare for summer internships or starting careers after graduation.

  • Faculty & Staff: You’re invited to host additional workshops or panels focused on Schools, advising, career skills, hands-on learning, or skills for applying to opportunities. These sessions help students get prepared and be successful in their next steps. For more information, please check your inbox for the email from Jessica Fox-Wilson titled “Let’s Build the Career Accelerator Schedule!”.
  • Students: Now is the time to find and apply for internships and jobs for next summer. Plan to attend the Career Accelerator to learn about opportunities and then use the time during the break to apply for things you want to do after classes end in May. Check back as more events are added to the schedule.

Sports recap

  • Men’s and women’s swimming and diving had a record-breaking weekend over their three-day stint at the Beloit Mid-season Meet. Lydia Nordgren’28 and Jeremy Mueller’27 captured victories in all four of their races, with Nordgren setting records in three: 100 butterfly (58.42), 100 freestyle (54.19), and 50 freestyle (24.54). Maclaryn Leonard’25 broke the 100-yard backstroke record (1:01.93), and Helena Harrison’25 broke the 1 meter 11 dive program record (404.90).
  • Men’s basketball traveled to the Milwaukee School of Engineering for their lone game this week, where they battled back in the second half. But the deficit from the first half was too large to overcome, ending in a loss of 67-54. They will host Rockford University at home on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
  • Women’s basketball hosted two home games over the last week and showed great improvement. After losing to Benedictine University earlier in the week, 73-42, the Bucs played a strong game against North Park University, only losing by eight, 63-55. They will host Marian University on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Physics and Astronomy Club Visits Fermilab

The student-led Physics & Astronomy Club visited Fermilab National Laboratory to learn about accelerator science, neutrinos, and the work of physicists. They invited physics faculty to come along, including visiting professor Michael Fortner who was on the team that discovered the top quark.

Canoeing in the Boundary Waters

This past summer, Zeke Kingsbury ’25 attended Coe College’s Wilderness Field Station in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. Students at the field station have the opportunity to take classes such as environmental justice and nature writing while canoeing and camping for ten days.

Rave Emergency Alert Test on Tues. Nov. 26

On Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at 11:45 a.m., Beloit College will test our Rave Emergency Alert system. This will only be a test.

Thanksgiving Shuttles

There is shuttle service to the Van Galder bus station during fall break. Drop off will be November 27. Pick up will be December 1st. Please sign up for a time if you need transportation to the bus stop.
