Midterm break, trick-or-treating, blustery days – we welcomed the arrival of fall on campus, and now it’s time to start thinking about the spring semester. The advising period for spring registration opens Tuesday.

First, make an appointment with your advisor, if you haven’t already.

Sports Recap

Volleyball started the week with a 3-0 win against Maranatha Baptist University on October 22nd, with Kierra Rayne Hoover ’27 leading offense with 10 kills. During the second match with Maranatha Baptist, Beloit celebrated its two graduating seniors, Aileen Garcia ’26 and Kaylee Witte ’26. The match ended in a 3-0 win. Beloit lost their match against Lawrence University, 3-0. Maddisyn Adamns ’29 led the game in digs.

Men’s Soccer lost to Elmhurst University and Ripon College. Eziah Hernandez ’29 assisted Rafael Cervantes Jr. ’25, scoring Beloit’s only goal in a 3-1 loss against Elmhurst, with Cody Nowaczyk ’28 making crucial saves to keep the Bucs in the game. Against Ripon, defenders showed their best efforts, led by David Staats ’28 at goal.

Women’s Soccer worked tirelessly against Ripon College, with midfielders Willow Mashkuri ’28, Meah Mora ’26 and Zyana Turcios ’28 preventing many Ripon goals. Ultimately, Ripon scored in the final minutes, making it a 1-0 loss.

Football hosted Monmouth College in a 72-0 loss. Amani Floyd ’28 led Beloit in return yards, rushing 84 yards for four returns. Punter Ian Ladd ’29 was notable on special teams, averaging 35.1 yards per punt.

Swimming and Diving hosted Lawrence University in a close meet. In men’s events, Liam Murphy ’29 secured a dominant victory in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 12:13.81. Jeremy Mueller ’26 placed first in the 200 Yard Freestyle and 50 Yard Freestyle. On the women’s side, Kelsey Gerstler ’28 placed first in the 1000 Yard Freestyle and the 200 Yard IM. Amelia Pullen ’26 also secured first in the 100 Yard Freestyle. In diving, Elsa Gregory ’28 scored an impressive 191.40 in the 1-meter dive. Jacob Fuller ’28 placed second in 1- and 3- meter events.

Roots run deep at annual Folk ‘n’ Blues Festival

This year’s Folk ‘n’ Blues festival was “Homegrown,” bringing the campus community together for a night of exciting performances from alumni, faculty, and students: Mason Sorensen ’25, Res Life Coordinator Tae Charles ’23, Dean of Students Ron Watson with Mr. Pink, and DJ duo Mamucha Munthali ’26 and Kwasi Asante ’26.

Helping find home and community in Beloit

In a partnership between Belmark Associates and Acts Housing, Jorge Maldonado ’26, with help from Dhriti Nair ’26, Helmi Kawsar ’27, May Zaw ’27, Shaira Manandhar ’26, Isabella Padro ’26, and Conner Richards ’28, collected data in the Hackett and Merrill neighborhoods to support a local effort to increase home ownership and sense of belonging in the community.

Creating a greener geochemistry lab

Armita Aghamiri ’28 worked with Assistant Professor Corbin Livingston to find an alternative for lead chloride in a lab experiment used in Beloit College chemistry coursework, eliminating unnecessary exposure to lead and specialized management of lead waste.
