Scholarships

A number of scholarships are available to support study abroad. Some are funded by Beloit College through donors, and others are funded by external sources.

• Exchange Program Scholarship: students participating in a reciprocal exchange program receive a scholarship of $1,500 to assist with travel. See a list of exchange programs here. 
• Need-based internal scholarships: No need to apply for these. They will be awarded based on your level of need after you are approved to study abroad.
• Scholarships requiring additional applications: the Betsy Brewer Award to help replace your paycheck, and the the Weissberg Study Abroad Equity Scholarship supports underrepresented students interested in studying human rights and social justice issues abroad.
• National scholarships for US Citizens and Permanent Residents:
  • Pell-eligible students may apply for the Benjamin Gilman Scholarship.
  • Freeman-ASIA awards are available for programs in East and Southeast Asia.
  • JASSO scholarships are specifically applicable to programs in Japan.
  • Boren Scholarships can be applied to programs with a focus on learning a critical (less commonly-taught) language, including programs in Japan and in Francophone African countries. 
  • The Fund for Education Abroad offers study abroad scholarships; students who have no prior international experience are particularly encouraged to apply!

Tuition

You pay tuition to Beloit College, with all Financial Aid applying.

Cost of living

The cost of housing, meals, transportation and personal expenses varies by location of study. The costs may be more or less than living on campus at Beloit College. Once you have selected a study location, research the costs of living on the program website, and you can estimate your costs using the budget worksheet available here. 

Airfare

You are responsible for your airfare and travel expenses. You can search for flights using student-oriented travel websites, such as StudentUniverse.

Travel documents

If you do not have a passport, factor in the cost of a passport. Depending on where you plan to study, you may incur costs for a visa, including travel to the host country’s consulate in the US.
