Travel and Move-In:
Check the dates above for the day you should plan to arrive on campus. On your move-in day, please plan to arrive during working hours (8-4:30 p.m. CT).
- Coaches may be in touch with athletes with more specific instructions about your move-in.
- Families are welcome on campus during move-in to help you get settled. New Student Days programming is for students only.
Traveling to Beloit:
We recommend flying into Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD). O’Hare offers direct flights to many major airports in the U.S. and worldwide and Beloit is an easy 70-mile drive or bus ride away.
The Van Galder bus runs numerous times daily from Chicago O’Hare to South Beloit, IL, which is a brief shuttle or cab ride from campus.
Students and families flying into other regional airports are encouraged to rent a car as public transit is not as consistent.
College vans will pick up students from Van Galder at the South Beloit, IL, terminal on move-in days between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. If you’re arriving outside of this time frame, contact the Orientation staff at orientation@beloit.edu or 608-363-2379.
Living On Campus
Please review the frequently asked questions about life on Beloit’s campus below. If you have additional questions, please contact Residence Life at reslife@beloit.edu.
A checklist of items to bring with you can be found:
- On the What to Pack page.
- As a printable checklist.
You’ll get your campus mailbox number assignment via email in mid-July. Your college address format is:

Beloit College Box [your box number]

Beloit, WI 53511
Please don’t ship anything to the college for the fall semester until August. The Mail Center is unable to process and store packages until then. The Mail Center is located in the lower level of Pearsons Hall.
All students living on campus are required to have a campus meal plan. Commuting students may choose to use a meal plan but are not required to do so.
All new first-year students are placed on a Blue Meal Plan at a cost of $2,451 per semester. The Blue Meal Plan has 2 options:
- 14 swipes/week + $375 in flex dollars.
- 19 swipes/week + $125 in flex dollars.
Transfer students with sophomore standing or above have the additional option of a Gold Meal Plan for a cost of $1,840 per semester:
- 7 swipes/week + $335 in flex dollars.
Swipes are used once per meal period at The Commons Café, Beloit’s main dining hall located in Chapin Hall.
Flex dollars are like cash. They can be used at any dining location on campus (Hamilton’s in the Powerhouse, Commons, and SmartMarkets). Sales Tax is not charged on purchases made with Flex dollars. Flex dollars can carry over from Fall term to Spring term but expire at the end of the Spring semester.
You will select your preferred meal plan as part of your Housing Agreement and Roommate Questionnaire. You can make changes to your meal plan selection at the beginning of each semester via a Portal form.
Questions?
More information about meal plans is available on the Bon Appétit website.
Free washers and dryers are located on the lower level of most residence halls.
First-year students are advised not to bring vehicles with them. On-campus parking is limited and many services are either provided on campus or within walking distance. Regularly scheduled shuttles and city buses can get you to stores for groceries and other needs and bicycles are available for use out of the Powerhouse.
If you want to bring a car, you will need to participate in the parking lottery. You can request a parking permit ($85/term) using a form in the Portal. If you’re approved for a permit, you can pick it up at the Security Office when you arrive on campus. Parking permit stickers are required to park in college lots. City street parking requires cars to move every day.
All Beloit College buildings are smoke free. In fact, it’s a city ordinance. Smoking/vaping is not allowed within 15 feet of building entrances and windows, or on main sidewalks.
Getting to know the city of Beloit and the local area.
Beloit College extends beyond campus. Several campus facilities, including CELEB, Gallery ABBA, and the Hendricks Center for the Arts are located downtown.
Downtown Beloit is just a short walk down the hill from the main Beloit College campus. Within walking distance, you’ll discover plenty of dining options, cafés, and study spots with student specials. When you’re in need of a study break, you’ll also find open mic nights, trivia contests, live music, and plenty of fun social events in the Beloit community. On Saturday mornings from May to October, Beloiters love to gather at the downtown Farmers’ Market (which is renowned statewide).
Working on Campus
All Beloit students are eligible and encouraged to hold a job on campus. In addition to providing spending money or helping to cover the costs of college, campus work opportunities can be great learning opportunities providing staff mentors and teaching marketable skills.
You are encouraged to find a position within the first three weeks of class. Available positions will be posted online throughout the summer. Most positions pay Wisconsin minimum wage ($7.25/hour). More varied opportunities may exist after your first year.
It is your responsibility to seek and secure work on campus. Human Resources is the primary source of position listings, though we encourage you to network with departments as soon as you arrive (or even prior to arrival).
Necessary documents for paperwork
In order to work on campus, participate in a summer research program, or receive funding for an off-campus experience, you will have to show documents and complete paperwork. You are encouraged to complete this paperwork on move-in day, even if you’re not sure if you will hold a campus job.
The most common combinations of documents required to complete employment paperwork are listed below. You must bring the original documents; copies don’t count. For a full list of accepted documents, see https://www.uscis.gov/i-9.
-
An unexpired U.S. passport or Permanent Resident Card
OR -
A driver’s license or photo ID AND a social security card or birth certificate (original or certified copy)
- Note: If you are under the age of 16, you must bring both your social security card and birth certificate (original or certified copy).
- A voided check or similar bank document with your bank’s name, your name, the bank’s routing number, and your bank account number. These details will provide the information needed for electronic deposit of financial aid refunds and earnings from your campus job.
All international students (both F-1 and J-1) must secure a campus job and provide proof of employment before they can complete employment paperwork and apply for a social security number. We do not do international student paperwork on move in day, but the Human Resources/Payroll Office and Office of International Education will assist you shortly after you arrive.
- Passport
- Visa
- I-20 for F-1 students
- DS-2019 for J-1 exchange students
- Printed I-94 U.S. arrival document
- U.S. bank routing and account numbers (if any)
Additional Details
To be eligible to work on campus, you must fill out an I-9 form, a W-4 form, and an earnings authorization form. Don’t worry about completing these forms before arriving; the Payroll Office will provide the forms and explain the details on move-in day. You will complete your paperwork after you get your college ID photo taken.
In addition, you must complete any outstanding documents requested by the Financial Aid Office. All students who wish to work on campus must have the approval of the Financial Aid Office. Contact the Financial Aid Office directly if you have missing documents and would like to begin working on campus.
You can opt to have your earnings from your on-campus job automatically applied as a payment toward your tuition. We will help you set this up on move-in day when you complete your direct deposit form.
If you do not apply your earnings to tuition, or if your student account does not have a balance due, your earnings will be deposited into your bank account each payday to help cover indirect costs like books or travel.
Domestic Students
Beloit College will withhold Wisconsin income tax from your wages unless you claim exemption from withholding as an Indiana, Kentucky, or Michigan resident. Illinois residents are subject to Illinois withholding. Your campus earnings are exempt from Social Security and Medicare withholding during the academic year.
International Students
Beloit College will withhold Federal and Wisconsin income taxes from your wages. Your campus earnings are exempt from Social Security and Medicare withholding during your first 5 years of presence in the U.S.
New Student Days: August 21-25
New Student Days is your opportunity to make friends, meet mentors, and settle into your new campus home before returning students arrive and classes begin.
You’ll be part of an orientation group of new students matched with an Orientation Leader (OL) — an older student dedicated to helping you get to know the Beloit community. You can expect lots of activities focused getting to know each other, lots of time spent learning where everything is on campus, opportunities to meet with your AMP Advisor and AMP group in person(!) for the first time, and a chance to finish up any outstanding paperwork from the summer.
New Student Days schedule
We’ll be adding events once the schedule is finalized.
