You’ll learn how language connects people, and how using it opens doors to new experiences, relationships, and ways of seeing the world.
Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world and in the United States. Knowing it gives you an immediate advantage, whether you’re interested in careers, travel, community engagement, or being able to communicate with more people. Employers across all industries increasingly seek bilingual candidates, and language skills often lead to better job opportunities and higher salaries.
Studying Spanish helps you build strong communication skills, cultural understanding, and confidence navigating diverse communities. Trust us — no one ever regrets knowing another language.
Beloit College is a great place to learn Spanish because your studies go far beyond the classroom. You’ll engage deeply with the language, literature, film, media, and cultural texts from across the Spanish-speaking world while practicing conversation every day. We offer themed language classes that look at current topics such as immigration, environmental issues, and health.
You’ll put your learning into action — volunteer locally with children or adults, live in the Spanish House to practice your Spanish and organize cultural events, complete internships with local nonprofits, and/or study abroad in Spain or Latin America. Faculty support you as you build linguistic skills and intercultural competence through research or creative projects.
Students build proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while exploring cultural works from across the Spanish-speaking world. Coursework strengthens communication skills, cultural understanding, and the ability to think critically about language and society.
Studying Spanish prepares you to navigate a multilingual world with confidence. You’ll graduate with strong communication skills, cultural competence, and real practice using Spanish in academic, social, and professional settings.
