What is Spanish Language and Culture?
Spanish language and culture explores how people communicate, create meaning, and build community across the Spanish-speaking world. As you grow your skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, you’ll also dive into the histories, stories, and cultural traditions that shape Spanish-speaking communities.

You’ll engage deeply with the language, literature, film, media, and cultural texts from across the Spanish-speaking world while practicing conversation every day. We offer themed language classes that look at current topics such as immigration, environmental issues, and health.
You’ll put your learning into action — volunteer locally with children or adults, live in the Spanish House to practice your Spanish and organize cultural events, complete internships with local nonprofits, and/or study abroad in Spain or Latin America. Faculty support you as you build linguistic skills and intercultural competence through research or creative projects.
