Transfer Resources
Check out some of our main topics that apply to transfer students.
General
You are considered a transfer student at Beloit if you have attempted at least 12 or more college credits upon completion of your high school diploma or equivalent. You must submit transcripts from all colleges/universities you have attended.
Please note:
- Students who have completed 12 credit hours or less as a transfer student will be added into our first-year advising and mentoring program upon enrollment.
- If you completed (or will complete) an Associate Degree while in high school, and have not done any additional college course work since graduation, you should apply as a first-year student. We highly recommend that you submit your college transcript for transfer credit and placement review.
Beloit offers a Reapplication Process to make transferring easy for students who have applied within the last two admission cycles.
Most recommendations and supporting documents previously submitted can be used for your new application. After your Reapplication Form is received, we will contact you about the remaining items needed to complete your file and notify you about our admission decision.
Previously Enrolled
Students who have already enrolled at Beloit College and are seeking readmission should instead contact the Dean of Students’ Office.
Non-degree students are eligible to register for Beloit courses as a Special Student. Registration for classes is granted on a space-available basis after degree-seeking students have selected their courses. All non-degree seeking students should complete the Special Student Application.
For further information about taking courses as a non-degree student, please contact our Registrar’s Office at registrar@beloit.edu.
We do not offer a traditional summer term, but do offer unique opportunities to live and learn on campus as part of two different residential programs: our Center for Language Studies Summer Languages Program, and Beloit Blocks. Learn more about Beloit College’s summer programs.
Credit evaluations
Beloit College will accept up to 15 units (60 semester hours) of credit to be applied toward the Beloit degree. You must have earned a grade of “C” or better for the credit to transfer. Students applying to Beloit with transfer credits should include their most recent official college transcript(s) as part of their application.
One Beloit College unit is equivalent to 4.0 semester credit hours or 6.0 quarter hours.
A one-unit course is expected to involve a minimum of 12.0 total hours of student work per week. Courses that are meeting less than this number of hours a week or requiring less outside work may be assigned a fraction of a unit of credit, e.g., 0.75 units=3.0 semester credit hours.
Degree-seeking undergraduate students who matriculate at Beloit College are classified as first-year students, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Class standing is determined by the number of units earned:
- First-year: fewer than 7 units
- Sophomore: 7 to 14.999 units
- Junior: 15 to 22.999 units
- Senior: 23 or more units
A student must have a minimum of 31 units to graduate.
Admitted applicants will receive a transfer credit evaluation and graduation checklist completed by the registrar’s office. The evaluation and checklist will outline what requirements have been completed, and still need to be completed. in order to earn the anticipated degree.
Transfer credit can apply toward the total number of units required for graduation and may apply toward the general education domain and skills requirements for the bachelor’s degree, with some restrictions. Grades from transfer courses will neither be recorded on the transcript nor included in the Beloit grade point average.
You may request a preliminary credit evaluation prior to admission here.
Transfer courses may be used to satisfy all 5 domain requirements and two of the five skills requirements, with the following limitations:
- One out of the three required writing courses may be a transferred course.
- The quantitative reasoning requirement may be fulfilled with a transfer course.
- The intercultural literacy requirement must be fulfilled at Beloit College.
- AP/IB/GCE A-level credits may not be used to fulfill any of these requirements.
Determination of the number of transfer credits used toward major or minor requirements is made by the chair of the appropriate department or program, in consultation with the registrar. Students should take account of the following guidelines:
- Normally at least half of the courses used toward fulfillment of major or minor requirements must be completed at Beloit College.
- Students who expect to use transfer credits to fulfill major or minor requirements should consult with the chair of the appropriate department or program at the earliest possible time.
- Transfer credits applied toward the student’s domain or skill requirements and toward the student’s total units required for graduation may be counted toward the completion of a major or minor requirement only with departmental or program approval
