Submit Signage Content
Members of the campus community can submit content to be included on digital signage.
This content generally takes the form of “posters” promoting events, clubs, or opportunities, such as the examples given above. These posters may either be made by the submitter, or else made from a template in the signage system.
Making your own poster
You make your own poster, then submit it as an image.
- Gives full creative control and flexibility with the presentation.
- If planning to also print posters, can make one design for both signage and print.
- Requires following best practices to be readable and understandable.
Using a signage template
You submit text and an image, then the signage item is made for you.
- Ideal for minimal text and a single image.
- Does not require creative work or making your own design.
- Avoids most concerns with best practices aside from using concise and understandable language.
Expectations for signage content
The expectations outlined in the Digital Signage Policy are intended to make sure content is accessible and useful for viewers, as well as promoting good practices within the college community to ensure that their content is promoted effectively.
Content promotion
- Event coordinators should first add their event to the website to appear on the campus calendar.
Content design
Viewers may see signage at long distances or from smaller screens, so the primary requirement for signage content is for it to be easily readable and understandable.
- Layout: Use the full landscape orientation of the signage screens: 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels tall. If you have a poster in another size or arrangement, rework it to match the expected size.
- Length: Write text to be short and to the point. Make text as large as possible with high contrast with its background.
- Design: Keep colors, graphics, and visual elements simple where possible. Scannable elements like QR codes should be as large as possible. Avoid overlapping text and graphics.
Submitted content that does not meet these requirements may be sent back for revisions or will be converted to use a signage template instead.
Content duration
The other significant requirement for signage content is to be current and relevant.
- Relevance: Content items will only be displayed while it is still relevant. For example, event posters will not appear after the event occurs or a deadline has past.
- Minimum duration: Content items should be scheduled to run for at least one week. Submission received with less than one week before their expiration may not be displayed.
- Maximum duration: Content items will be displayed for at most one month. may only appear on signage for one month at most.
- Recurring events: Events with regularly scheduled times throughout a semester may be approved to appear for the duration of the semester. For example, a weekly fitness class that occurs each Friday at 5 p.m. for the entire semester.
- Manager discretion: Signage managers may adjust these limits based on demand. For example, during high-volume periods, display time may be reduced to ensure fair rotation of content.
