The Critical Language Scholarship Program (CLS) is now open for summer 2024. This is a fully funded summer study abroad program focused on immersive language acquisition. It is open to those with U.S. citizenship.

(Not to be confused with the Center for Language Studies, which is Beloit’s own immersive summer language program.)

This might be perfect for a student interested in international business, international relations, modern languages, or CRIS, but there is no field of study requirement. Heritage-seeking and general interest can be compelling motivations. Please share with your advisees who may be interested!

Note that, while Chinese and Japanese require prior study (and might be excellent for majors/minors preparing for a semester abroad), other languages such as Portuguese (for our Spanish majors/minors/speakers?), Hindi, and Swahili do not.

For those who wish to learn Arabic or Russian, but have no previous language experience, there is a virtual program available.

The application deadline is Nov. 15th. GEO staff are available to work with students on their applications via email and arranged meetings. Be in touch with any questions.
