GRE Professional Exam - Cheat Sheet to the Basics

Who takes the GRE?
If you are pursuing a:

- Doctoral degree
Test available in the U.S. and worldwide (locations vary).
GRE Test Format
The general test is most often given via computer. Paper-delivered tests under special circumstances (including subject tests).
Test takers can skip questions, review and edit answers, and have access to calculator.
Analytical Writing
- Critical thinking and analytical writing skills
- Analyze an Issue
- Analyze an Argument
- 2 sections, 30 min each
Quantitative Reasoning
- Arithmetic, algebra, geometry, data analysis
- Quantitative comparison
- Multiple choice with 1+ answers
- Numeric entry
- 2 sections, 35 min each
Verbal Reasoning
- Analyze and evaluate written information
- Reading comprehension
- Text completion
- Sentence equivalence
- 2 Sections, 30 min each
Registering for the Test
- ETS account needed for registration
- Computer-delivered tests available year-round
- Monday testing for Sabbath observation available
- Scores available in —10-15 days
- Test can be taken once per 21 days, up to 5/year

- $205 for the General Test
- $150 for Subject Tests
