Who takes the MCAT?

If you are applying to medical school in the United States or certain schools in Canada.

MCAT Test Format

The general test is given via computer. The exam is a mixture of passage-based and individual questions.

• Biological & Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems: 59 questions, 95 minutes
• Chemical & Physical Foundations of Biological Systems: 59 questions, 95 minutes
• Psychological, Social & Biological Foundations of Behavior: 59 questions, 95 minutes
• Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills: 53 questions, 90 minutes

Registering for the Test

• Online account needed for registration
• Check site for available test dates by location
• Zone registering deadlines
  • Gold: last day to cancel with partial refund or to reschedule at a lower rate
  • Silver: last day to schedule at low rate, and last day to reschedule at all
  • Bronze: last day to cancel or edit registration info
• Scores available in ~30-35 days
• Test can be taken 3 times a year, 4 times in2yrs, and 7 times in a lifetime.

Cost

• If 15+ days before exam: $320
• If 8-14 days before exam: $375
