About the Play

Summary

When Bumble©, Match©, and Tinder© let you down, your dearest friends always know someone who’s “Perfect for You.” Next thing you know, you’re fidgeting alone in a restaurant, hoping to meet the love of your life. No world exists where Aaron, a buttoned-up banker, and Casey, a bohemian artist, could hit it off — and neither would describe the other as “perfect.” Leave it to the waiter to see a true connection. First Date is a musical poking fun at every awkward blind date – the perfect icebreaker for your next date!

Main Characters

  • Aaron: A nervous, awkward, 30-something Jewish financier. Stable, educated, and logical but a bit annoying. Wants a big family but is still getting over being jilted at the altar by his ex-fiancée.
  • Casey: A funky, perky, artistic 30-something with a tendency to sabotage healthy relationships. Unsure about wanting children.

Ensemble Roles

  • The Waiter: A single gay writer/performer moonlighting as a waiter. Sees connections others miss.
  • Reggie: Casey’s saucy, dramatic best friend with an overactive imagination.
  • Lauren: Casey’s stable, happily-married sister who advises her to give Aaron a chance.
  • Gabe: Aaron’s best friend who encourages him to move on from Allison.
  • Allison: Aaron’s ex-fiancée who haunts him as the perfect woman.
  • Grandma Ida: Aaron’s Jewish grandmother who disapproves of Casey.
  • Casey’s Christian Father: Imagined by Aaron, he critiques Aaron’s cultural differences.
  • Additional walk-on characters and chorus roles available.
