Joe Davis’10 YAA
Awarded October 2, 2021
2020 Young Alumni Award
Three years before he marked his 10-year Beloit College reunion, Joe Davis had already ascended to the highest levels of professional sports broadcasting as play-by-play announcer for the Los Angeles Dodgers. As he rose through the broadcasting ranks quickly, he made it all look easy. But make no mistake, Joe has worked diligently to climb to the heights of that booth at Dodger Stadium, where he’s earned a reputation for being highly prepared and well-informed. It’s no surprise that he was nominated for a National Sports Emmy in 2021.
Despite his meteoric career success, Joe remains what can only be described as “a really nice guy,” a husband and a dad, and someone who’s made time to talk to prospective students to encourage them to enroll at his alma mater.
And his Beloit experience is a convincing story to share. As a student, he embraced every existing opportunity and created new ones as he focused on his career goal of sports broadcasting. He worked with faculty and staff to get sound advice and make connections. He announced Buccaneer spring games and created his own sports show on community access television. He was a four-year letter-winner on the football team. He put exceptional energy into internships in minor league baseball announcing, independent study on voice projection, and his academic program, graduating with highest honors and a major in theatre arts/communication with a minor in journalism.
Today, in addition to announcing for the Dodgers, he continues to provide national coverage of college football, the National Football League, and Major League Baseball for FOX Sports.
Joe is a bright reflection on Beloit College, demonstrating that with talent, agency, hard work, and a well-rounded liberal arts education, anything is possible.
The Beloit College Alumni Association is pleased to recognize Joe Davis with the 2020 Young Alumni Award.
