A Giving Day for the record books

More than $1 million is raised for financial aid in a single day.

Supporters of Beloit’s financial aid program gave more than $1 million in a single day for the second year in a row during Giving Day in April.

An anonymous, first-generation alumna gave a significant matching gift that doubled the amount of many others, and a special group of Beloiters made early pledges and challenges that provided momentum, including Alumni Association Board members, and notably the classes of 1970, 1971, and 1986. International support was strong, with gifts coming from Poland, India, Sweden, Australia, Japan, and other countries. U.S. gifts came from Beloit supporters in all 50 states.

  • $1,162,900 raised in one day, a record breaker
  • 1,184 total donors
  • 107 students donated extra meal swipes
  • A $175,000 late-night collective challenge boosted Beloit past the $1 million mark

  • Many students, faculty, and alumni have walked past these intricately carved terracotta blocks, sunken into the brick wall of a well-used campus lobby. Do you know what they are, where they are, and why they were preserved? If you do, email us at belmag@beloit.edu. This is just one of the campus mysteries we’ll solve in a fall story.
