Aureus

By Joan Lindhorst Cathcart’61
Dorrance Publishing Company, 2022

Aureus Book Cover In this historical novel, Joan Lindhorst Cathcart tells the story of political and military conflict set in 12th century England during the reign of Henry II.

Aureus explores this violent landscape and the monumental egos that drove these struggles. Marriage betrothals brought about by war, peace, and the need for allies were critical in patching together the shifting coalitions of the Middle Ages.

A budding teenage romance, interrupted by parental match-making, warfare, exile, the mighty English church, and the quest for treasure, unfolds within this historical backdrop.

Cathcart majored in international relations at Beloit and went on to earn an M.A. degree in political science. She taught high school for 21 years and had second careers in radio and magazine advertising and real estate. She is retired and lives in southern California.
