Eugene W. Zeltmann’62 DSC

You are a director of the Schenectady Boys and Girls Club and have served as chairman of the State Career Education Advisory Board and as an NAACP board member and church trustee.

1993 Distinguished Service Citation

As a Senior Class speaker who discussed “What is a Reputation?” at the 1962 commencement, you concluded by noting that you and your classmates, as graduates, “are a small portion of Beloit College’s reputation” and by expressing hope that “we can maintain and perhaps improve” its name through future accomplishments which reflect credit and honor upon it. You, for one, have achieved this. After earning a master’s degree and doctorate from Johns Hopkins University, you joined General Electric as a nuclear chemist and, except for two-years as an Alfred E. Smith Fellow appointed to the New York Public Service Commission by Governor Rockefeller, have continued to serve it as a marketing and program executive. Now the manager of trade and industry associations for GE’s Industrial and Power Systems, you have provided leadership for energy, environmental, and regulatory initiatives and conducted forums on the firm’s view of current trade opportunities and limitations. A frequent speaker, participant, and delegate at worldwide professional symposia, legislative hearings, and conferences, you recently returned from a trade mission to China and reported on it to high-level federal government officials. You also chair the Industry Sector Advisory Committee, which is appointed by the Secretary of Commerce and the U.S. Trade Representative. On the volunteer scene, you are a director of the Schenectady Boys and Girls Club and have served as chairman of the State Career Education Advisory Board and as an NAACP board member and church trustee. Beloit College is proud to acknowledge your dynamic, effective, and diversified accomplishments by awarding you this Distinguished Service Citation.
