Beloit College Athletics has recognized the greatest athletes, coaches, administrators, and trailblazers in Buccaneer history since the Hall’s inception in 1963. The induction ceremony is Sunday, Oct. 1 at noon in the Powerhouse’s Stack.

Derek Carrier’12

Derek Carrier’12 is the only modern-day Beloit College football player to play in the National Football League. Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Oakland Raiders in 2012, Carrier also played for the Eagles, 49ers, Redskins, and Rams. Before he appeared on a national stage, the native of Edgerton, Wisconsin, rose to glory on the gridiron, basketball court, and track at Beloit College.

A three-time All-Conference selection as a wide receiver, Carrier earned First-Team honors in each of his final two years. He also was a Third-Team All-Region selection as a junior in 2010. Carrier’s name was still littered across Beloit’s record book at the time of his induction, 11 years after graduating as the school’s career leader in receptions (189), receiving yards (3,111), and receiving touchdowns (29).

Carrier also holds Beloit’s top two single-season marks for receptions (75 in 2011 and 64 in 2010), receiving yards (1,250 in 2011 and 1,044 in 2010), and receiving touchdowns (12 in both 2011 and 2010). He is one of just two players in program history to record more than 1,000 receiving yards in a season and is the only one to accomplish that feat more than once. His 88 points as a senior ranks fourth in school history for a single season. Carrier also graduated with the school record for single-game receptions, catching 15 passes at St. Norbert in 2011.

A three-time Academic All-Conference performer, Carrier was a Health & Society major at Beloit and a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He earned the John Erickson Academic Award in 2010, and the Men’s Basketball Achievement Award and Richard Shannahan Most Valuable Player Award in 2011.

In two seasons on the Men’s Basketball team, Carrier appeared in 44 games, averaging 8.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game, while shooting 49 percent from the field and 30 percent from 3-point range. He was on the track & field team during his final two years at Beloit, competing in the 55 meters, long jump, and triple jump.

Angela Molnar’03

Angela Molnar’03 is one of the most prolific scorers in the history of the Beloit College women’s soccer program. A three-sport athlete who also competed in softball and track & field, Molnar’s bread and butter was on the pitch, where she still holds the school record for both career goals (46) and points (108), 20 years after graduating from Beloit. A three-time First Team All-Conference selection (1999-01), Molnar also ranks fourth in program history for assists with 16.

Molnar burst onto the scene as a freshman, leading the team with 15 goals, which ranks second in program history. That same year, she recorded 10 assists, which also ranks second in the annals of Beloit’s women’s soccer program, both set new school records at the time. She followed that up with an encore of 13 goals as a sophomore, which saw her record a team-high 30 points that season. Molnar graduated with the top two single-season point outputs in program history.

A team captain on the soccer team in her final two years, Molnar was voted as the team’s Offensive Player of the Year three times and received the team’s Most Improved Player Award and Beloit’s Janssen Award in 2002.

Scott Schleich’93

Scott Schleich’93 excelled in two sports at Beloit College, earning two All-Conference selections on the basketball court and breaking a pair of school records as a High Jumper for the Buccaneers’ track & field team.

As a member of the Bucs Track & Field team, Schleich became a four-time conference champion in the High Jump, winning the event at the Midwest Conference Indoor Championships as a freshman and sophomore, while also winning the event at the MWC Outdoor Championships during his freshman and senior campaigns. Schleich saved his best for last, breaking the school and conference record at the 1993 MWC Outdoor Championships, one of the final meets of his storied career. His mark of 7-00 still stood at the time of his induction, coming 30 years after graduating from Beloit College. Schleich also broke the school record in the indoor high jump with a leap of 6-07.625, which also still stood as a school record at his induction into Beloit’s Hall of Honor. A co-captain for the Bucs during his senior season, Schleich also won the High Jump at the Wisconsin Private College Championships in 1991 and 1992.

On the basketball court, Schleich earned Second Team All-Conference honors during his sophomore and senior seasons while playing for legendary and fellow Hall of Honor member Bill Knapton. Schleich appeared in 73 career games in three seasons on the hardwood, posting career averages of 9.7 points, 4.4 points, and 1.1 assists per game, while shooting 48 percent from the field and 45 percent from 3-point range, with 62 made 3-pointers. A 6-foot-7 forward, Schleich was the team’s second-leading scorer as a senior, en route to helping the Bucs win the 1993 MWC Championship and securing a berth in that year’s NCAA Division-III Tournament. That same season, Schleich and the Bucs defeated the Russian National Team.

Shelly Wiegel’94

Shelly Wiegel’94 is one of the most well-rounded student-athletes in Beloit College athletics history, excelling at two sports and in the classroom for the Buccaneers. A six-time Academic All-Conference performer, she earned that distinction three times a piece as a basketball player and cross-country runner.

Wiegel was a three-time First Team All-Conference performer for Beloit’s cross-country team while twice serving as team captain. Wiegel was voted Team Most Valuable Performer in 1991 and 1992 while helping the Buccaneers win the 1992 Wisconsin Private College Championships.

As impressive as Wiegel was on the course, she was equally impressive on the hardwood, where she was a two-time First Team All-Conference selection. Voted Team Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year as a senior, Wiegel was also a two-time winner of the Buccaneers’ Hustle Award. She received the Beloit Athletic Department’s Janssen and Peterson Award as a junior and senior, respectively. She finished her career with 259 assists and 203 steals, which each ranked second in program history at the time of her graduation, and still ranked fifth and fourth, respectively, at the time of her induction, 29 years later. In 85 career games, Wiegel scored 826 points for a career scoring average of 9.7 points per game, while also shooting 39 percent from 3-point range and 70 percent from the free-throw line.
