Helping others discover their voices and potential

Rachel Bergstrom wins the Phee Boon Kang ’73 Faculty Prize for Excellence in Advising and Mentoring from Beloit College.

Dr. Rachel Bergstrom is being recognized today for the deep care, attention, and mentorship she offers students throughout their time at Beloit. Her advising is never just transactional—it is personal, thoughtful, and shaped by a genuine investment in each student’s growth and well-being. Whether helping students navigate academic pathways, offering support during moments of uncertainty, or encouraging curiosity through research mentorship, Dr. Bergstrom leads with empathy, insight, and respect.

Students consistently describe feeling heard, understood, and empowered in their conversations with her. One student shared, “She has been a guiding force in my academic journey… always encouraging my ideas and making space for me to feel seen and respected.” Another wrote, “She creates a safe space where I can express my thoughts without fear of judgment.” These reflections speak to the environment Dr. Bergstrom cultivates—one where students are not only challenged to grow but also supported in doing so with confidence and care.

For her extraordinary commitment to mentoring the whole student and for the countless ways she helps others discover their voices and potential, we are proud to honor Dr. Rachel Bergstrom with the Phee Boon Kang ’73 Faculty Prize for Excellence in Advising and Mentoring.
