Professor Emeritus Chris Johnson

Professor Chris Johnson joins the faculty emeriti after 34 years of dedicated service to Beloit College.

Chris Johnson in 2018. Credit: Trevor JohnsonProfessor Emerita of Dance Chris Johnson, who taught dance and kinesiology at the college, was dedicated to the success of her students. She received the James R. Underkofler Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching in 2002. As a choreographer and researcher, her work draws attention to matters of social justice, exploring issues of privilege, marginalization and social identity. Her awards include the inaugural commission of the Side Street Studio Arts Going Dutch Festival, First Place for Choreography at the New Prague Dance Festival, the Laureate and Grand Prix at the Festival of Choreographic Collectives in Moscow, and multiple selections for the gala concerts by the American College Dance Association. Her dance “Wreath of Memories” was performed by special invitation at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. She has presented her work in Tanzania, France, Newfoundland, Belgium, and throughout the U.S., and has been selected to present work nationally and internationally for Dance St. Louis, Harvest Chicago Contemporary Dance Festival, DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge) Dance Festival in New York City,Women in Dance Leadership Conference, and World Dance Alliance.
