Two exceptional professors receive tenure
The Board of Trustees of Beloit College approved the granting of tenure to Joseph Derosier, Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, and Ben Stucky, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. Both joined the tenure-track faculty in 2020, and their promotion to associate professor recognizes their contributions to teaching, academic programs, student recruitment, and shared governance at Beloit College.
Mentoring relationships are at the heart of the Beloit College experience. Dr. Joseph Derosier and Dr. Ben Stucky are the most recent examples of how sincere connections — through small classes, research, and one-on-one learning — make the difference in student success. In their time at the college, they have demonstrated dedication to getting to know their students, helping them find their passions, and contributing to the college’s transformative learning environment.
Dr. Joseph Derosier teaches courses in French language and French and Francophone literature and culture, contributing both depth and breadth to the curriculum of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. He also teaches courses that support the curriculum in Environmental Studies, Critical Identity Studies, and English. Students praise him for his supportive classroom environment, as well as for his high standards and academic excellence. His scholarly activity is closely integrated with his teaching and strengthens the intellectual life of the department and the college. As an advisor, Dr. Derosier effectively guides students’ academic development and personal growth. His service to the college reflects a strong commitment to institutional leadership and community engagement.
Dr. Derosier earned his bachelor’s degrees in French literature and social thought and political economy from the University of Massachusetts, and his master’s and doctorate in French and Francophone literature from Northwestern University.
Dr. Ben Stucky is an accomplished teacher who offers a range of courses in mathematics, supporting students across multiple levels of preparation, and a strong and reliable contributor to the Department of Mathematics & Computer Science. He is widely recognized as an effective and compassionate advisor, providing formal academic guidance and informal mentoring that supports students’ academic, professional, and personal development. Dr. Stucky’s integration of research and student mentorship reflects Beloit College’s mission and the expectations of a liberal arts institution. Like Dr. Derosier, Dr. Stucky has emerged as a trusted citizen of the college and future faculty leader.
Dr. Stucky earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science from Bethel College, and his master’s and doctorate in mathematics from the University of Oklahoma.
Beloit College celebrates the addition of Dr. Derosier and Dr. Stucky to its community of professors who consistently demonstrate excellence and deep engagement in teaching, advising, scholarship, and service to the college.
