Alumn Jérémy Jessin ’18 earns PhD in Geography

His research focused on the operationalization of the “resilience concept” in regards to risk management of natural hazards in the islands of French Polynesia.

Dr. Jessin developed and applied spatial tools such as decision-support systems and UAVs (drones) to help improve climate risk management techniques in French Polynesia. His PhD was awarded as part of a dual degree program by the universities of La Rochelle and French Polynesia.

While at Beloit College, he earned a double major in Biology and International Relations. His I.R. senior thesis studied the adaptation of public health initiatives to climate change to mitigate the incidence of disease caused by waterborne pathogens.

Dr. Jessin credits Beloit College for helping him develop skills that proved “indispensable” in graduate school such as technical knowledge, critical thinking, and excellent writing.

He is now an environmental consultant who helps small companies and non-profits develop effective climate adaptation strategies.
