On April 5th, the Aardvark Authors collaborated with Career Works to host a short story writing workshop with Beloit alum, JP Rindfleisch ’11.
Career Works and Aardvark Authors have previously collaborated to host four other guest authors: Danielle Harrington, Lyda Morehouse, Gabrielle Prendergast, and Lynda Barry — the 2023 Beloit College Mackey Chair. Each of these events had a different topical focus. Some were focused on workshopping pieces of writing, while others focused on producing writing and how to pursue writing careers across different publishing fields.
The most recent workshop with JP focused on how to write a short story. Their presentation outlined several techniques that could be scaled up or down for projects of different lengths, making it applicable to all in attendance, regardless of what lengths of work they write. JP also told us about their days at Beloit and how they got started as a writer. They provided valuable insights into indie publishing and pursuing a fiction writing career.
Collaboration events like this are a great way to spread the word about your club and bring a new opportunity to the students at Beloit. If you are in club leadership and want to collaborate with Career Works for an event, reach out anytime at careerworks@beloit.edu!
