Support continues for key program committed to student success

Beloit College received the exciting news that its Student Support Services TRIO grant was renewed. This means that the Student Excellence & Leadership program will continue to support and challenge our incredible students, who will benefit from the opportunities for academic, career, and personal development that this program delivers.

Beloiters are committed to an inclusive community, but sometimes seeing yourself as a part of a new community takes time. TRIO is one of the U.S. Department of Education’s programs designed to identify and provide assistance for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, and its Student Support Services (SSS) program grants fund undergraduate student opportunities.

At Beloit College, the new, 5-year SSS grant funds the Student Excellence & Leadership (SEL) Program. In this program, Beloit College college staff work directly and intentionally with students from different backgrounds, specifically first generation college students, students from low-income backgrounds and/or those who have documented disabilities. Activities include health and wellness, financial literacy and FAFSA workshops, as well as educational and recreational experiences in nearby cities. In turn, the assets these unique students bring with them across their four years of participation transform campus culture and learning for all.

“We’re really happy that we can continue to support the students enrolled in the program and help ensure their continued success at the college. Please join me in thanking Daryl Saladar, Angi Olesen, Maria Scarpaci, Jonathan Hopkins, and Ann Marie Santora for all their work in getting us to this successful outcome!” said Donna Oliver, Provost and Dean.

Beloit College’s unique brand of liberal arts prepares graduates for both successful futures and lives. Student Excellence and Leadership at Beloit College means developing student academic, social, and personal excellence within a liberal arts setting.

Beloit College is grateful for a partnership between the Department of Education and program staff who together serve our campus community.
