Des Moines University and Beloit College launch partnership to expand health sciences pathways for students

Beloit College students who want to pursue careers in medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and more after they graduate have new opportunities available, thanks to a recent partnership with Des Moines University.

Beloit College and Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences (DMU) have entered a new partnership that opens doors for Beloit students seeking graduate-level health sciences programs at DMU.

Effective October 2025, Beloit students who meet academic benchmarks will be eligible for guaranteed interview opportunities at DMU in the following programs:

  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Doctor of Podiatric Medicine
  • Doctor of Physical Therapy
  • Doctor of Occupational Therapy
  • Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies
  • Master of Science in Anatomy
  • Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences
  • Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences

Two of these programs — Doctor of Podiatric Medicine and Doctor of Occupational Therapy — will also reserve one seat annually for a qualified Beloit student.

“Together with Beloit College, we’re shaping a stronger health care workforce for the Midwest and beyond,” says Angela L. Walker Franklin, Ph.D., DMU president and CEO. “This partnership accelerates the pathway to a rewarding career in health care for motivated students who are ready to pursue the education to get there.”

Beloit students who meet established GPA thresholds and prerequisite coursework will receive an interview invitation to their program of interest if they fulfill the admissions criteria set by DMU.

“We are thrilled that this partnership makes pathways into health professions clear for our students,” said Beloit College President Eric Boynton. “Des Moines University has a long history of educating students to treat the body as a whole, and their comprehensive, holistic approach to medicine is an excellent companion to the skills students develop at Beloit College.“

The partnership illustrates both institutions’ commitment to improving access to advanced health care education while maintaining academic integrity and student-centered values.

The partnership with DMU represents the latest Beloit College partnership that opens possibilities to careers for Beloit College graduates. Other School of Health sciences partnerships include:

  • Nursing: A dual-degree nursing program with Edgewood College, where students earn a Bachelor of Arts or Sciences (BA/BS) from Beloit College and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BN) from Beloit College, in as little as 4 years.
  • Nursing: Direct-entry into Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, the #1 ranked nursing program in the country
  • Athletic training: A dual-degree program in Athletic Training with University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where students earn a Bachelor of Arts or Sciences at Beloit and then a Masters Degree in Athletic Training.
  • Pharmacy: A dual degree program with the Medical College of Wisconsin where students do three years of coursework at Beloit College and three years at MCW and graduate with both a bachelor’s degree and a doctorate of pharmacy.
