Emily Sager recognized for excellence in advising and mentoring students
Emily Sager, assistant director of Career Works, receives this year’s Phee Boon Kang ’73 Staff Prize for Excellence in Advising and Mentoring for her willingness to help and commitment to student success.
Sager has been an important member of the Beloit College community since 2012. Her mentoring goes beyond career logistics. She is approachable, patient, and supportive, empowering students to believe in themselves and to approach their futures with preparation and clarity. She listens carefully, remembers details, provides constructive advice, and if the need arises, will offer a shoulder to cry on.
Sager is known for the care and kindness with which she treats students, particularly student workers. “She has been incredibly supportive in helping me navigate important decisions about my future beyond Beloit College,” one student reports.
“She guided me through thinking about post-graduate plans, identifying internship opportunities, improving my resume, and preparing for professional life. Her advice is always thoughtful, practical, and encouraging.”
Sager received a bachelor’s degree at Northern Illinois University in business management, with a concentration in human resource management, and a master’s degree in psychology, with a specialization in career management and counseling. She is a wife, mother, and an avid reader, active in the community, and currently president of the South Beloit Library’s Board of Trustees.
