Office: Room 205B, World Affairs CenterI teach courses in creative writing, literature, environmental journalism and nature writing. I’m also editor of the Beloit Fiction Journal. In my classes I aim to connect students to their personal stories, as well as professional uses for their talents: editing the BFJ, writing toward publication, working in the publishing field. At Beloit I direct the Mackey program, which brings a high-profile writer to campus each year to offer inspiring workshops. I enjoy hosting visiting writers and student readings. In the summers, I love teaching an ENVS Capstone called “Writing Wilderness” in the boundary waters canoe area, where I help students write about their wild selves. I’ve published two books of fiction: Farmer’s Almanac (2013) and Add This to the List of Things That You Are (2019). Besides fiction, I also write and produce monthly radio essays for Northern Public Radio about the intersection of the self and the natural world. Learn more about my writing.
