Role Summary:

Building Assistants will assist in the day-to-day operations and tasks of the Residence Life Office and the Residence Halls. The Building Assistants will be responsible for building orientated tasks that may include moving furniture, cleaning, inventory, as well as answering phones, greeting visitors that come into the office, and other tasks as assigned.

 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Move furniture between buildings and from floor-to-floor.
  2. Collect leftover items from hallways and rooms; organize items to donate to Goodwill.
  3. Inventory the condition of room and common area furniture.
  4. Set-up new lounge spaces under direction of Res Life Pro-Staff.
  5. Clean out old basement areas within the residence halls.
  6. Organize and clean Whitney and Porter storage areas.
  7. Pack-up belongings left in student rooms and bring packed boxes of items to Goodwill.
  8. Routinely provide updates to Pro-Staff on the status of assigned tasks and projects.
  9. Staff the front desk area when assigned to by Res Life Pro-Staff
  10. Answer Office phones in a professional and friendly manner; direct caller’s questions to the appropriate pro-staff member.
  11. Greet students/staff/visitors who visit the Office and direct them to the appropriate resource.
  12. Check-out the storage key and escort students to storage areas when they need access. Wait with students until they have finished moving all of their belongings in/out of storage. Lock up the storage area and then return the key to the Office of Residential Life.
  13. Hand out temp cards
  14. Retrieve Office mail from the Mail Center.
  15. Prep room key packets and assist students in completing check-out forms.

 

Credentials and Experience:

 

  1. No formal experience is required. However, experience in leadership roles, student organizations, or other positions demonstrating strong organizational and communication skills is also valued.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

  1. Ability to work efficiently under time constraints.
  2. Ability to follow through on assigned tasks.
  3. Work well independently as well as in team settings.
  4. Maintain a positive attitude in interactions with all students, faculty, and staff.
  5. Complete weekly employee time cards online in a timely manner.
  6. Respond to emails from Res Life Pro-Staff supervisors within 24 hours.
  7. Be on-time and present to all assigned shifts unless an absence is approved by ResLife pro-staff in advance.
