Ousley Residency Keynote this week Ousley Scholar-in-Residence Ashlyn Sparrow is a game-designer and educator who teaches undergraduate, graduate, and K-12 students how to design their own games while uncovering the sociopolitical implications of their designs. Her keynote address this Friday, Sept.15, is titled “Game Mechanics, Real Dynamics: Designing for Equity and Social Justice.” In a recent interview with the college, Sparrow shares some insights on her interests, career, and impact. When asked about working with Beloit students, she explains that, “every time I interact with students, I always learn something new, whether it’s their interests and passions or what they hope for in the world. I don’t ever know what to expect, but I know it’s going to be excellent.” Group fitness classes in the Powerhouse are underway Group Fitness Classes are open to all Beloit College students, faculty, and staff and are a great way to stay moving throughout the week. Classes include Pilates, high energy dance, cardio, yoga, intervals, core, and Zumba. Classes occur weekly in the afternoon, Monday through Thursday. Read a section of the Constitution on Constitution Day In recognition of Constitution Day on Monday, Sept. 18, faculty, staff and students will read the Constitution and its Amendments. Dancing on the fringeChris Johnson, Professor of Dance, created a new work in collaboration with alumna Sarah Ellen Miller’15 and student Emma Logas’25 last May. The dance was invited to be part of the Elgin Fringe Festival this fall. Because Miller was unavailable for the Fringe performance, Johnson invited Kateri Zitzelsberger’26, to step in. Cooking your way through collegeExperiential learning is an integral part of being a Beloiter. Students across all departments initiate and organize their own special projects around topics they’re passionate about. Three students created the Himalayan Kitchen project to expand South Asian food options on campus. |
