Library renovation making progress

A rendering of a renovated library with an additional library entrance planned for the north side of the ground floor. The library renovation project is on track to complete in June, with the library building reopened for the campus and wider community by the start of the fall semester.

Hello Beloiters!

Did you notice the library getting a new layer of bricks over the past few weeks? Or did you see the crane lifting the new HVAC system onto the roof? The library renovation is on track, within budget, and on time to be complete in June. Some highlights to look forward to:

  • A whole new building on the inside, with the utilities and interior being reworked from the dirt floor up. Look forward to high-tech classrooms, group spaces, study spots, flexible furniture, and a room for prayer and meditation.
  • A completely new exterior, with new brick, insulation, and glass. The updated mechanicals will help maintain a comfortable climate for both people and books.
  • The entire building will be ADA accessible, and inside the building more accessible shelves and wider aisles in the stacks.
  • The future home of Impact Beloit, which encompasses all the college’s career-preparedness programs and community-facing initiatives, which together create the “Beloit Impact.”

Look for future updates in this space, as the college works to deliver a building that will better serve students while connecting the campus and the Beloit community — decades into the future.

Sports recap

It was a big weekend for the Beloit College men’s and women’s swim and diving teams as they competed in the Midwest Conference Championships at Grinnell College. The Buccaneers finished eighth (men) and seventh (women), and broke 10 school records over the weekend. These events included the men’s 50-, 100-, and 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, women’s one- and three-meter diving, 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard freestyle relay, and the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays.

The weekend was highlighted by three individual Midwest Conference titles. Junior Helena Harrison’25 was crowned one-meter diving conference champ with a score of 378.55, and was named MWC Women’s Diver of the Year. Freshman phenom Jeremy Mueller’27 won both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle, and earned the 2024 Men’s Newcomer of the Year crown. His time of 45.22 in the 100 was a Midwest Conference Championship meet record and marks the first men’s swim and dive conference win for Beloit since 2011.

Beloit basketball swept Grinnell College in their last home games of the season, but both men’s and women’s teams fell to Lake Forest. The women’s team finished with an 11-14 record, 8-8, in conference, and a four-win improvement from last year.

The win against Grinnell sent the men’s team to the Midwest Conference Championship for the first time since 2000. The Bucs will head to Illinois College as the three seed to take on the Grinnell College Pioneers at 7 p.m. this Friday. Look for a campus email with details about an event to send the team off at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
