Making an impact locally and globally

Students walk along the Lake Michigan shoreline.

Over sixty students explored southeastern Wisconsin in early September, including the Lake Michigan Shoreline, Kettle Moraine Area, and Scuppernong Springs. The Geology Department’s annual beginning-of-the-semester field trip is generously funded by Richard “Skip” (’59) and Mary Ann Davis.

Hello, Beloiters - best wishes to students on their midterms this week. You are almost halfway through the semester with a nice fall break as your reward. Finish strong!

School of Global and Public Service to launch this spring

Beloit College is excited to announce the addition of the School of Global and Public Service to its academic offerings, rolling out this spring. A launch event will be held Nov. 5 as part of the Beloit & Beyond Conference.

The School of Global and Public Service will introduce students to careers in education, law, social work, government, NGOs, foreign service, criminal justice, and more.

Beth Dougherty, Manger Professor of International Relations and a member of the college’s Political Science Department since 1996, will be the school’s director.

Look for information on the upcoming launch in coming issues of the Beat and elsewhere around campus.

Impact Beloit programs grow

This semester, 27 students began yearlong fellowships and internships across 23 community partner organizations in the second year of our Impact Beloit Community Fellows and Concierge Internship programs.

These programs are for juniors and seniors who are inspired to make an impact in the Beloit community and gain valuable, hands-on experience working on projects integral to the operations of a community partner organization as a fellow or intern.

This experience, coupled with mentorship from faculty and staff advisors and professional development workshops, prepares the fellows and interns for meaningful careers and helps them develop the skills to be a socially responsible leader.

Look for some interesting stories coming from these transformational experiences.

Two events emphasize the importance of voting
