Friday, Feb. 21: Movie: “Stamped From the Beginning,” 7 p.m., Grace’s Place. A Black history documentary that showcases the resilient Black Americans who continue to face systemic racism and the history of how these ideas were created.
Saturday, Feb. 22: Basketball Senior Night, 1 p.m. & 3 p.m., Sports Center. Wear white and come cheer on the men’s and women’s basketball teams on their senior night, their last game of the season.
Friday, Feb. 28: Open Mic Night, 8 p.m., Grace’s Place
Mackey Chair in Creative Writing
This week also marks the Mackey Keynote. On Thursday at 7:30 p.m., head on over to Moore Lounge in Pearsons for a reading by Janisse Ray. Professor Chris Fink says “her keynote reading is a can’t-miss event.” Her central themes focus on nature, depicting wildlife, forests, and rural farm life.
Pearsons Hall ribbon cutting
Today at 1pm, head over to Pearsons Hall to celebrate the completion of two phases of renovations. The first phase launched DK’s at the start of the fall semester, and the second phase has wrapped with a School of Business and a refreshed (and accessible) entrance.
Sports recap
Men’s basketball continued their positive trend, picking up two wins this week and increasing their win streak to three. They took their first of the week at home against Maranatha Baptist University, 78-67, and later beat Knox College, 75-59. Center Azeez Ganiyu ’24 led the charge with 16 and 17 points to go along with 7 and 14 rebounds in the two games. They will host Lake Forest College for Senior Day on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Women’s basketball also faced off in a Midwest Conference matchup against the Knox College Prairie Fire. Despite strong showings from Hadja Bayo ’25, who had 12 points, and Kaitlin Davis ’27, who recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, the Bucs were defeated, 74-52. They will also host Senior Day on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Men’s and women’s track and field competed in the UW-Platteville Invite over the weekend. A strong showing came again from sophomore sprinter Josh Yearby ’27, who placed first in the 60 M with a time of 6.89 seconds. On the women’s side, our 4x400 relay team of Alayna Furch ’24, Cole Miller ’27, Jaslyn Gama ’28, and Niomee Casey ’27 came in first with a time of 4:27.18.
George Carlson ’23 spent the summer examining human health in the past during an international research trip in Munich, Germany with Professor of AnthropologyLeslie Williams.
Taman Azad ’27 shares his experience of coming to Beloit College, and how impactful the new experiences have been. He details the advantages of a small college education, and how people can leverage their unique skills from Beloit College in the professional world.
