Sports recapMen’s Soccer fought hard last week against Grinnell College, securing a 1-1 tie. Defense, especially clutch saves by David Staats, resulted in a scoreless first half. Beloit College broke through first with Rafael Cervantes Jr.’s effort, assisted by Evan Miranda. Beloit continued to push, but Grinnell shot back, scoring to finish the game with a draw. Women’s Soccer fought hard until the final seconds, preventing a shutout in their tough loss to Grinnell College. The Pioneers set the tone in the first half with two goals, but Sophia Dietz fended off a high volume of shots on goal to keep the Buccaneers close. Beloit pushed hard, marking the second half with a stunning goal by Keira Werner late in the game. In the end, the Buccaneers fell to Grinnell 3-1. Women’s Volleyball was on the road, facing a tough challenge against Conference-leading Cornell College and at the Grinnell Tri. The Bucs’ persistence showed as the three-game match progressed with an improved attacking percentage and increased number of kills. Still, Cornell’s offense proved to be too much, defeating Beloit 3-0. The all-day competition the next weekend showcased noteworthy individual performances. Football came to play last Saturday, dominating Lawrence University after a tough loss to Lake Forest the previous week. Jared Torres’ passing game connected with multiple receivers across four quarters of Buccaneer-dominated football, including a 45 yard punt return that extended Beloit’s lead. Buc’s defense shut down Lawrence’s offense, keeping Lawrence scoreless. Beloit secured their first win of the season! Men’s and Women’s Cross Country competed in the Wisconsin Private College Championships. Individual achievement was evident in both the men’s and women’s races. Dylan Malmgren was the top men’s finisher, with Kembre Daniel and Cooper Rathmann clipping across the finish line soon after with 23rd and 26th place finishes, respectively. Top finishers for the women’s squad were Allie Roberts (29th place), Addie Bogda (32nd place), and Meghan Koning (43rd). |
