Steven Shik

Steven Shik is an artist and illustrator living and working on the East Side of Detroit. His work filters his experiences as a Korean adoptee by exploring the notion of identity through cultural origins and expectations. Through his experience as an Asian American, Steven Shik recontextualizes Korean symbolism to illustrate his emotional disconnection from a culture to which he “remains a Spectator”. Shik has exhibited work in a variety of venues, including a 2024 solo show at Oloman Café (Hamatrack, MI) entitled “Factory Settings.”

Shik currently teaches illustration at the College of Creative Studies (CCS).
