Role Summary:

As a Beloit College Student Ambassador, you will play a key role in shaping the first impressions of prospective students and their families by leading engaging, informative campus tours. You’ll deliver personalized tours that highlight the college’s academic programs, student life, and facilities, tailored to each group’s interests and needs. In addition to tours, you will support the Admissions Office through reception and customer service duties: answering inquiries, assisting with recruitment events, data entry, and helping maintain a welcoming environment. This role requires strong public speaking skills, professionalism, cultural awareness, and a solid understanding of the college in order to represent it accurately and enthusiastically.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Lead engaging, personalized campus tours for prospective students and guests.
  2. Share accurate information about academics, student life, and campus resources.
  3. Represent the college professionally and follow established tour guidelines.
  4. Greet and assist visitors in the Admissions Office; respond to questions in person, by phone, and via email.
  5. Support recruitment events such as Open Houses and Admitted Student Days.
  6. Perform clerical tasks, including data entry, mail runs, and document organization.
  7. Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming reception area.
  8. Uphold confidentiality of visitor and applicant information.
  9. Attend required trainings, stay informed about college updates, and assist with other duties as assigned.

Credentials and Experience:

  1. Previous # of years of experience required: 0
  2. Experience with: Engaging with the public, such as serving as a high school ambassador, working retail, or participating in community-facing roles.
  3. Proficiency with:
  • Collaborative environments with experience working effectively in group settings.
  • Strong computer literacy and telephone etiquette, supporting efficient communication and clerical tasks.
  • Public speaking, with the ability to engage and inform both individuals and larger groups in a professional and welcoming manner.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Ability to represent the college positively and communicate its values, programs, and culture to diverse audiences.
  2. Strong verbal communication and public speaking skills; confidence engaging individuals and groups.
  3. Excellent customer service skills in a respectful, professional, and welcoming manner.
  4. Familiarity with Beloit’s academic offerings, campus life, and resources, or a willingness to learn and retain that information.
  5. Comfort interacting with a wide variety of people, including prospective students, families, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members.
  6. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Reliability, punctuality, and effective time management, especially for scheduled tours and events.
  8. Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing needs and responsibilities throughout the admissions cycle.
  9. Cultural awareness and the ability to foster an inclusive, welcoming environment.
  10. Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
