Athletic Training Dual Degree Program
Beloit College partners with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to provide an opportunity for Beloit College students to earn an accelerated Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) degree. Students in this program graduate with a BA or BS from Beloit College and MSAT from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in five years.
In this program, students gain the experience they need to serve as a healthcare professional who works as part of a healthcare team. They learn to provide primary care, injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.
Programs
Beloit College students must formally apply to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UW-M) Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program by November 1 of their third year at Beloit College.
The following Beloit College courses are prerequisites for the program:
- All Beloit College domain, skills, experience (“E”), and capstone graduation requirements.
- At least 24 units of Beloit College credit, with no more than 7 units of transfer credit.
- Biology 110, 247 (or Health and Society 201), 256, 257.
- Chemistry 117, 230.
- Physics 101.
- Psychology 100.
- Health and Society 301, 390 (Biomechanics).
- Exercise Physiology taken at UW-Milwaukee prior to enrolling.
- Other requirements for Health Sciences major with the exception of two courses on the social determinants of health, which will be transferred from UW-M.
UW-M MSAT Admissions Requirements:
Beloit College students will be guaranteed admission to the UW-M MSAT program if they meet the following requirements:
- A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher in all Beloit College coursework.
- Completion of all prerequisite courses with a C or better.
- Submission of an essay explaining the student’s desire to join the athletic training profession.
- Completion of an interview that demonstrates the applicant’s ability to:
- Articulate cohesive and appropriate responses to questions related to plans for success in graduate school and career goals,
- Reflect and articulate personal attributes,
- Communicate in a clear, articulate, and professional manner.
Additional Notes:
- Equivalent courses may be substituted in many cases. Students should consult with their advisor and the registrar.
- Students must earn at least 16 Beloit College units.
- After successful completion of the first-year of the UW-M MSAT and receipt of an UW-M transcript, Beloit College will transfer 7 units of credit from UW-M. UW-M grades do not contribute to the Beloit College grade point average.
