Explore Asia’s cultures, histories, and societies

What is Asian Studies?

Asian studies is an interdisciplinary field that examines the societies, histories, languages, and cultural traditions of Asia. It invites you to explore how communities across East, South, Southeast, and Central Asia understand the world, create meaning, and shape global conversations.

It is the study of Asia through multiple lenses including history, language, politics, religion, literature, and the arts. You build foundational cultural knowledge and develop tools for interpreting diverse perspectives across one of the most dynamic regions of the world.

Why study Asian Studies?

Asia is home to the majority of the world’s population, many of its fastest-growing economies, and some of its most influential cultural and political traditions. Studying this region helps you understand global systems, deepen cultural literacy, and work across languages and worldviews.

An Asian studies minor strengthens majors in international relations, history, business, anthropology, political science, language studies, education, and the arts. It also helps you develop skills prized across industries: intercultural communication, comparative analysis, research, and the ability to navigate global contexts with confidence.
