The School of Business combines an interdisciplinary business curriculum with personalized career services to set students apart in the labor market and prepare them to enter the world of business or to launch startups.
Majors
Requirements
The Business Management major is designed for students interested in the analytical side of running an organization. The major has the analytical core of microeconomics and macroeconomics and the business core of accounting, finance, and management courses. Graduates will be equipped to participate in the operation of all forms of business/economic organizations, to work in the financial services sector, to pursue professional programs, and/or to start their own businesses.
- Eleven departmental units:
- Business 110, 216, 217, and 285.
- Economics 111, 112, and 251.
- Three elective units chosen from Business 206, 218, 220, 255, 260, 270, 301, 304, 305, 330, 340, 341, 342, 350, Economics 202, 210, 245, 304, 306, and Philosophy 225.
- One capstone unit chosen from Business 381 or 382 or Economics 380.
Business Management majors are recommended to pursue one minor (choose from Finance, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and Sports Management). If students do pursue a minor, they must pay attention to limits on double counting (i.e. using the same course to fulfill requirements for a major and minor). These rules are indicated with the minor requirements.
Students may declare a maximum of one major and a maximum of one minor with the Department of Economics and Business. Students who do not major with the Department of Economics and Business may declare up to two minors.

Requirements
The core of the economics major is economic theory, which is a set of tools an economist uses to understand how the world operates, and how individuals, groups and organizations behave. The major also requires supporting courses in other social sciences, so that students gain interdisciplinary perspectives on how the world operates. This major is suitable for students considering careers in public policy, international development, education, sustainability, public policy, and others.
- Nine departmental units:
- Extra-departmental and supporting courses (4 units): choose two out of three sequences below.
- Sociology 100 or 150 and choose one from 216, 221, 231, 235, 240, 245 or 251.
- Political Science 110 or 160 and choose one from 210, 212, 214, 230, 246, 255 or 257.
- Two units on a specific country/region of the world from any discipline, including language classes.
Students who major in Economics are encouraged to take Mathematics 110.

Requirements
The Finance Major equips students with both the soft skills and analytical tools necessary for success in a wide range of finance careers, such as portfolio management, investment banking, wealth management, and financial advising. Through a rigorous curriculum that emphasizes accounting, mathematics, statistics, and financial modeling, students learn to apply quantitative methods to model financial theories using real-world data drawn from firms and global markets.
Additionally, this program is heavily structured towards career development, with paths designed specifically for finance professions. This includes mentorship from career coaches, and opportunities to build a strong professional network through career focused events. Students may also benefit from combining this major with a second major or minor in fields such as political science, international relations, data analytics, or history to broaden their understanding of the broader institutional landscape in which financial systems operate.

Requirements
The Marketing Major prepares students for entry-level positions in marketing at corporations or marketing agencies. Students will gain a solid understanding of consumer behavior and marketing principles, become competent in utilizing modern marketing tools and channels, and acquire quantitative skill and experience in working with marketing data. They will develop an ability to formulate, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of a marketing strategy and plan. For career readiness, students go through a four-year developmental path of career preparation designed for marketing careers, including mentorship by career coaches and developing a professional network in marketing.

Requirements
Like the economics major, the quantitative economics major teaches students economic theory, which is a set of tools economists use to understand how the world operates and how individuals, households and firms or organizations make decisions. In addition, the major has an emphasis on using mathematics to model economic behavior and using statistical and econometric techniques to test hypotheses emerging from economic theories. Students are prepared to pursue careers that require strong quantitative or data skills in a variety of industries or contexts, ranging from the environment and health to sports, marketing, finance, and many more. This major also prepares students well for a graduate program in Economics.
- Ten departmental units:
- Three units in economic modeling: Economics 111, 112, and either 211 or 212.
- Two units in empirical analysis: Economics 251, 303.
- One unit in mathematical analysis: Economics 305 or 306.
- One unit in cost-benefit analysis: Economics 201, 202, 203, 205, 209, 210, 245.
- One capstone unit: Economics 380.
- Two elective units from Economics 300, 304, or Business 301, 305, 350 and any of the courses not used to satisfy the preceding requirements, and Economics 271 if the subject of the topics course is pertinent.

Programs
Requirements
Beloit College students apply to the Marquette University Accelerated Master of Finance program after completing 15 units (usually four semesters) at Beloit and enroll at Marquette after completing 28 units (usually seven semesters).
Prerequisites
- All requirements for the Business Management, Economics, or Quantitative Economics major except for one elective unit.
- An overall and a major GPA of at least a “B” (3.0).
- Business 216 and 217 with a grade of “B” or better.
- All Beloit College domain, skills, and experience (“E”) graduation requirements.
- At least 28 units of Beloit College credit with no more than 12 units of transfer credit.
