“The Miller Upton Forum is an incredible event that is packed with knowledge from multiple professors and economists. It is something that truly makes a large impact on students, faculty, and others who attend. Bringing in minds from other places helps to bring forth new perspectives that we may have never heard before, as well as educates further on the topic covered. This year with the topic of migration, we were able to hear from multiple economists and professors, such as Dr. David McKenzie, Dr. Rachel Ellett, and Dr. Giovanni Peri, the Miller Upton Scholar.
Not only does Dr. Diep Phan invite scholars with an economic focus, she brings in people from other areas of expertise, such as political science, so we can see how people in other fields think on the topic. Interacting with the speakers was a great opportunity, as you are able to truly get a deeper understanding of others’ thoughts on migration. Thinking critically about these topics creates a better understanding of what the current issues are in migration, and what are some possible solutions. The Miller Upton Forum is essential for those who can attend.”
