Edward J. F. Young 1925 DSC

Young is your name and young is your approach in demonstrating how good and full one’s life can really be.

Insurance Broker – Civil Servant

Few can match the energy and enthusiasm you display as “a man for all seasons” in business, community, church and club affairs. While enjoying a successful career as an insurance broker and associate with the Rockwood Company for more 50 years, you maintained a strong interest in agriculture and served as president of the Chicago Farmers, founder of the 4-H Dairy Conference and vice president of the International Live Stock Exhibition’s dairy show division. Your native village of La Grange has benefited from your leadership of its Historical Society, Plan and Bicentennial commissions, and Civic Club, and it has honored Mrs. Young and you as joint recipients of the 1979 Outstanding Citizen Award for directing the project that resulted in the book, La Grange Centennial History. You also have served your church well, as an official of its board, council and major committees and as moderator of the Chicago Congregational Conference. You are a leader in Chicago’s Union League Club, acting as orator for its last six Washington Birthday observances and currently heading its Civic and Arts Foundation. Beloit College proudly awards you this Distinguished Service Citation, noting that Young is your name and young is your approach in demonstrating how good and full one’s life can really be.
