Beloit College is excited to announce that Joe Davis, a 2010 graduate of our college, the voice of the World Series on FOX, one of FOX’s top NFL announcers, and the TV voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers, will be the speaker at the 2025 Commencement.
Each year, senior class officers work with the President’s Office to choose the commencement speaker. This year Camille Ledoux, a Beloit College senior class officer said, “Joe’s name has been a big inspiration for a lot of us. His perspective on how Beloit has changed his path will be useful to a lot of our students who are jumping into new experiences right after graduation.”
Eric Boynton, Beloit College president, expressed enthusiasm about the broadcaster’s participation in the ceremony. “It will be wonderful to welcome Joe Davis back to campus and hear him share his insights with our graduating seniors,” said Boynton. “Joe’s achievements in the field of sports broadcasting are a testament to the power of hard work, dedication, and a life-changing liberal arts education.”
Joe Davis’ remarkable professional career began with ESPN, where he provided national coverage of college football, the National Football League, and Major League Baseball. In 2017 he became the play-by-play announcer for the Los Angeles Dodgers, replacing sportscasting legend Vin Scully. Davis is known for his meticulous preparation and attention to detail, and he credits that preparation for his success. He strives to learn as much as he can about each team and its players, and has incorporated Scully’s focus on storytelling into his commentary.
Joe Davis made the most of Beloit College’s opportunities to gain hands-on sports broadcasting experience. He got his start calling Beloit College basketball games and he created his own sports show on the college’s public access television station. He worked with Professor of Performing and Applied Arts Amy Sarno to learn voice techniques for announcing, and Professor Emeritus Jerry Gustafson at Beloit’s Center for Entrepreneurship in the Liberal Arts to build his broadcasting skills, and make contacts in the industry while still a student at the college.
Beloit College is proud to count Joe Davis among our distinguished alumni and excited to welcome him back to share his story and inspire the graduating class of 2025.
