Richard Fineberg ’64 led an unconventional and uncompromising life, living for years in a small cabin outside Fairbanks, Alaska. He lived ascetically, doggedly focusing on work that over five decades — as a political science professor, an investigative journalist, a policy analyst for two governors, and as an independent researcher — helped hold oil companies accountable to their promises for environmental protections, and delivered billions of dollars to the state of Alaska.
